Description

These are three attached cottages, numbered 54, 56, and 58, located on Market Street in Thornton. They date from approximately 1814, and appear as a paired arrangement facing the road, although the entrance to number 58 is on the side, resulting in a back-to-back layout in part of the structure. The cottages are constructed of sandstone, which has a brick-like appearance. They have a stone slate roof with plain modillion brackets supporting the eaves, and corniced chimneys. The windows are square-mullioned, with single and two lights, and are set within squared surrounds. The doorways feature squared jambs with moulded cornices resting on plain console brackets.
