Description

Nos. 60 and 62, Market Street, Thornton, are a small, two-storey, three-bay sandstone house dating to 1814, as indicated by the initials "A over J S". The building is raised onto a basement and was later subdivided, with a side door providing access to No. 60. It has a stone slate roof with paired modillion brackets to the eaves, and corniced chimneys. The windows are revealed sashes set in squared surrounds, with a narrower window positioned centrally on the first floor. The main doorway has squared jambs and a rectangular fanlight, topped by a moulded cornice supported on plain, shaped console brackets. The entrance to No. 60 features a wooden porch with small cast iron fretted brackets to the lintel and cornice.
