Description

Nos 1, 3, and 5 on Sapgate Lane in Thornton date from around 1800 to 1820 and form a row of cottages raised above a cobbled street. The buildings are two-storey structures made of sandstone with stone slate roofs and corniced chimneys. They feature single and two-light square mullion windows set in squared surrounds. Number 5 has modern glazing bar sash windows and a bow window. The doorways have squared jambs. The cottages occupy an important position at the foot of a hill and are included for their group value.
