Description

Cloggers Row is a long row of 2-storey sandstone cottages dating to circa 1806. The row comprises numbers 8 to 30 (even) and is located on the north side of Market Street in Thornton. The buildings have stone slate roofs and brick chimney stacks. Most of the cottages feature coupled windows with a square-section dividing mullion and ashlar surrounds on both the ground and first floors, topped with a single stone-framed window above the door. Number 8 has a round-headed window and doorway, with small block keys. The cottages have panelled doors. A date stone inscribed with “1806” is present. Other doorways have plain stone surrounds and lintels. Market Street is part of the old road connecting Bradford, and Cloggers Row forms an important architectural introduction to the old township.
