Description

This is a block of circa 1820 cottages located in Thornton, built across and over the road. A large lintel is situated between numbers 17 and 24, supporting the first floor above the roadway. The cottages are constructed of sandstone, with brick detailing. They feature sill bands and dentil brackets beneath the eaves of stone slate roofs. The windows are single and two-light, with flush-framed square mullions. Some alterations have been made to the cottages, but their position remains historically significant.
