Description
Nos 1 and 3 Swan Street are houses dating from around 1800, now partly used as a shop. They are built of roughcast brick and feature 20th-century cement-tile and pantile roofs. The buildings are three storeys high and have a two-bay arrangement, with a two-storey, two-bay addition on the left.
No 1, on the left, has a later 19th-century door with an overlight set in a wooden doorcase that has a cornice supported by consoles. To the right of this door is a small 20th-century shop window. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, while the second floor features one horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars on the right. The addition to No 1 has a 20th-century door and a shop window beneath sash windows with glazing bars, topped with a pantiled roof.
No 3 has a part-glazed door beneath a wooden canopy, located to the left of two 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars on the ground and first floors. The second floor has plain casement windows. The buildings have dentilled eaves and a step in the roof line at the junction of Nos 1 and 3. There are rebuilt brick end stacks, with the one on the far right shared with No 5 Swan Street. This listing is included for its group value.
