Description
The Dower House Restaurant is an early 19th-century house, later used as a restaurant, and altered throughout its history. It is constructed of roughcast brick with a 20th-century cement-tile roof. The building is three stories high and originally comprised three bays, with a two-story bay added to the left and a wing extending to the rear left. The main entrance is from the right return. The ground floor features a canted one-story bay window on the right with a moulded stone sill and single-hung sashes containing nine, twelve, and nine panes of glass. The first floor has projecting stone sills to single-hung nine-pane sashes, each fitted with 20th-century louvred shutters. The second floor mirrors the first with projecting stone sills to 20th-century casements, also featuring glazing bars and shutters. An eaves cornice is concealed by a gutter. The roof is hipped and has a projecting brick end stack on the right and a stack to the rear of the ridge on the left. The building is included on the list for its group value.
