Description

This is an early to mid-18th century house, later used as a shop and flat. It is located on Holgate Road in York. The house is constructed of mottled red brick in a variant of English garden wall bond, with a steep slate roof. It is two storeys high, with an attic, and has three bays. The ground floor has been significantly altered with a 20th-century shopfront. The first floor retains sash windows without glazing bars, each with a painted flat arch. A brick dentil course runs along the eaves. Two large axial chimney stacks rise from the ridge of the roof. The east gable wall features an attic window, which is a sash with a 3-over-3 pane configuration. The interior of the property was not inspected. The building is included on the heritage list for its group value as an integral part of Holgate Street.
