Description
NUMBER 11 AND ATTACHED WALL AND RAILINGS is a house dating to around 1820, with alterations made around 1880. It is constructed of painted brick with a hipped slate roof. The house is symmetrical in design, presenting two storeys and three bays. The ground floor features brick canted bay windows with cornices, and sash windows with segmental heads. The first-floor windows are also sash windows with painted, rusticated lintels, partly obscured by a 20th-century timber gutter fascia. The doorway has a projecting, plain brick surround and cornice, leading to a door with four glazed panels above two raised and fielded panels, and a segmental fanlight above the door. A chimney rises from the right side of the ridge. The interior of the house was not inspected. A low, rendered wall runs in front of the house, supporting railings with cast-iron fleur-de-lys finials. The gate is flanked by cast-iron gate piers of square plan, decorated with honeysuckle. The property is included on the list for its group value alongside other buildings at the junction of Acomb Road and Poppleton Road.
