Description
The gate, gate piers, and front garden wall to number 137 on Holgate Road in York date from the mid-19th century and form a boundary approximately 30 metres long. The gate is made of wrought and cast iron, while the gate piers are constructed from white brick in stretcher bond. The wall is built of red brick, also in stretcher bond, with ashlar dressings. The wall is stepped and stands about 2 metres high, featuring a brick dentil course beneath a flat coping. The gate piers are square in plan, with chamfered plinths and moulded cornices. The caps of the piers have segmental pediments flanked by antefixae on each face, all adorned with incised anthemion and palmette ornament. The single carriage gate includes bars with twisted finials in the lower section and scrollwork panels above.
