Description

This is a late 18th-century house, now used as a shop, located on Bridgegate in Howden. The building is constructed of brick in stretcher bond, with the first two bays rendered. The third bay was rebuilt at a later date. It has a pantile roof. The house is three storeys high and originally three bays wide. A 20th-century shop front, designed in a 19th-century style, is present in the left bay. The central bay features an unequally-hung 12-pane sash window, and a pair of double board doors are positioned on the right. On the first floor, there are 16-pane sashes in the first two bays, with a void contained within a soldier arch to the right. The second floor mirrors this pattern with squat 8-pane sashes in the first two bays, and a void under a soldier arch to the right. A dentilled eaves course runs along the top of the building. A raised left gable end and a left-end stack are also present. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding properties.
