Description
No. 64 Bridgegate is a shop that dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, although it has earlier origins and underwent restoration in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and features a pantile roof. It has two storeys and consists of one bay. The 20th-century shop front replicates the original 19th-century design, featuring a central half-glazed door with an overlight, flanked by bow windows, all highlighted by reeded pilasters that support a frieze. On the first floor, there is a 16-pane sash window beneath a flat brick arch, and the building has a blind coped parapet and a pitched roof. Inside, the bakehouse at the rear contains a sub-floor water cistern from the early 18th century and a 19th-century cast-iron oven. There is also a late 18th-century hob grate in the rear office.
