Description
Nos 5 and 6 on Stainland Road are a house and shop dating from the early 18th century, with later alterations. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and has a rendered first floor, topped with a stone slate roof featuring a coped gable and kneelers. It stands two storeys high. The gable end facing the street has large quoins and a band between the storeys. Each floor has a single flat faced mullioned window with four lights, although two mullions have been removed from the ground floor window. The front facing Holroyd Square has been significantly altered but still shows the band and retains one four-light flat faced mullioned window (also lacking two mullions) on the first floor. A central stack is located at the ridge.
