Description

This is a semi-detached house, located at 360, 362 and 364 Stainland Road, Elland. The core of the building dates to the early 18th century, with later additions and alterations carried out in the 19th century. It is now occupied by three separate households. The house is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The front elevation is three bays wide. The central bay features a projecting porch with a coped gable, moulded kneelers, and large, monolithic jambs framing the entrances, bearing the date and initials '1703 IM'. To the right is a two-light mullioned sash window, above which are two rectangular sash windows with projecting sills and a coped gable culminating in a ball finial; this gable has been partially obscured by the bays on either side. The left bay has large projecting quoins and a sill band to the first floor. The ground floor contains a large two-light mullioned window, and the first floor has a two-light mullioned window above. Moulded gutter brackets and a coped gable with kneelers are also present. The third bay shows quoins rising to window head height, contemporary with the left bay, and features a later 19th-century rebuilding above. The ground floor has a large three-light mullioned sash window with a projecting hood, and the first floor has a three-light mullioned window with a projecting sill and a single solid light, with moulded gutter brackets. An original fireplaque bearing the number 124123 is located between the first-floor windows in the central bay. The building's development has been complex, resulting in a fascinating façade on to the village street.
