Description
Cross Farm House and the attached barn is a laithe-house built in the early 18th century, with some additions from the 19th century. The structure is made of thin coursed hammer-dressed stone, with parts that are whitewashed and rendered. It has a stone slate roof, and the cross-wing features coped gables with moulded kneelers. The building has three different roof lines, with the central portion being the lowest.
On the south front, there is a centrally placed doorway, flanked by one large window that has been much altered on the left and a 3-light flat faced mullioned window on the right. There are also 4-light mullioned windows (with two mullions removed) and a 2-light mullioned window, along with two single lights above on the first floor. To the left, the two-storey cross-wing has projecting quoins and a band, featuring a doorway with slightly projecting monolithic jambs and 2-light flat faced mullioned windows on the ground floor, with the same style above. A gable stack is present.
At the rear, there is a keyed arch leading to the barn, which has a rusticated keystone; this entry is now blocked and forms an internal porch to the house. The porch has a doorway with monolithic jambs and a 6-panelled door.
