Description
No. 10 High Street is a house with a ground floor shop, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with tooled flush quoins and features a stone slate roof on the front and rear wing, while the main roof has artificial stone slates at the back. Originally, there was likely a stone end stack on the left, which has been raised in brick and is now part of the adjoining stack. The building consists of a single front range that is two storeys high, with an attic, and a central long rear range that is also two storeys, accessible via a road that runs under a carriage arch on the right side of the front.
At the end of the rear range, there are two slightly higher attached restored cottages that are not of special interest. The front facade has three windows, which are 12-pane sashes set in beaded, slightly raised dressed stone surrounds, with additional tooled quoins and lintels. There are three gabled dormers with 4-pane sashes located through the eaves. The ground floor features a similar beaded stone door surround on the left with a renewed door, a 19th-century plate glass shop front in the center, and a carriage arch on the right with a cambered timber lintel at the front and a beam in the center and rear of the throughway. The rear wing has scattered windows, all with timber lintels, while the end block has a row of four 4-light windows on the first floor, including two Yorkshire sliding sashes.
