Description
The building comprises a bank, constructed in 1901 and designed by V.A. Lawson, with the date inscribed on the central gable. It is built of rock-faced coursed masonry with flush stone quoins and dressings, featuring a stone slate roof to the front and a slate roof to the rear, both with coped verges. Large ashlar end and ridge stacks with offset have been incorporated. The building consists of a single front range and a long rear wing, presenting an asymmetrical front with six windows. Three small gabled sections with kneelers feature stone mullion and transom windows, with two lights through the eaves; a small two-light stone mullion is located far to the left. On the first floor, five windows are stone mullion and transom with square hoodmoulds and relieving arches, the one in the fifth bay from the left being situated on a projecting gabled two-story porch. A pointed arch light is present in a gabled oriel window in the third bay, with a single light below. The ground floor features similar single lights and three four-light stone mullion and transom windows with square hoodmoulds and relieving arches. A slightly projecting doorway with an arched hoodmould is situated on the far left. The main doorway, in the porch, also has a similar hoodmould and is characterized by enriched carved jambs. Studded plank doors are present on both entrances. The bank forms a good group with No 12 High Street to the left and Gloucester House, Market Place to the right.
