Description
Colston House is a house in a row, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features an ashlar front with chamfered rustication on the ground floor, set on a plinth, while the remainder of the building is constructed from rubble stone. The house has a tile roof that is hidden behind a large pediment spanning the entire width, adorned with a moulded modillion cornice and a small lunette in the center. It is a single range building with three storeys and an attic.
The front has three windows: the second floor has 6-pane sash windows, and the first floor features 12-pane sash windows with a continuous sill band below. The ground floor includes two plate glass sash windows and a door to the right, which has four panels with the top two glazed and the lower two fielded. This door is topped with a decorative margin glazed transom light, and each opening is framed with a large chamfered keystone and flanking single voussoirs. The cornice continues along both returns of the building.
Inside, there is an exposed ancient coffin lid incorporated into the party wall with Acacia House on the first floor. The king post roof is exposed in the linked attic and second floors.
