Description

This early to mid-18th century building in Fairford’s Market Place originally comprised a house with a ground-floor shop and storage above. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with alternating flush quoins, and has a stone slate roof with some concrete tiles at the rear. A stone end stack is situated to the left, raised in brick, and a rear brick stack sits within the valley of two roof ranges. The building is double-ranged and three stories high. An eaves cornice has been removed, although seven wooden consoles remain in place. The upper floors contain three windows; the second floor has 12-pane sashes, and the first floor has 16-pane sashes with long timber lintels and a continuous sill band. A chamfered stone throughway features a plank door to the left and a large, probably late 19th century, shop front on the ground floor.
