Description
Mister Ernest, Hairdressers, is a corner house located in Fairford Market Place, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The building features a rendered front with a parapet wall and a plat band that continues from the adjacent property. It has a stone slate roof with a hipped corner, while the rear roof is covered in slate. The shared ridge stack with the neighboring property has a rendered base and a brick flue.
The building is two storeys high and has undergone significant alterations, particularly on the Market Place side, which now includes a three-light 20th-century window above a contemporary bow window shop front. The facade facing London Street, however, remains largely intact, constructed from coursed stone with a plinth and a plat band between the floors. It features five windows, with the leftmost being blind, while the others are sashes, including one 12-pane window with original glazing bars. All windows have flush stone surrounds and lintels. The ground floor has plate glass in a similar window surround to the left, two large 19th-century plate glass shop windows, and a former doorway that has been converted into a window on the far right. The last two bays on the right were originally separate premises.
