Description
Bridge Cottage is a house built in 1894 by Douglas and Fordham, located on Bebington Park Road in Port Sunlight. The structure features irregular flint on a brick base with stone dressings and a tile roof that has a hipped end. It stands two storeys tall and consists of two bays, including a canted corner bay and a one-bay return to Bridge Street. The corner bay projects under a shaped gable and has a jettied first floor. There is a cornice at the ground floor level.
The windows are designed with ovolo mullions and leaded glazing. The ground floor windows include transoms, and the first bay has a three-light window with ogee heads, along with a small light that has a decorated lintel to the right of the entrance. The first floor features four-light windows. The entrance is set in an elliptical-arched recess and includes a half-glazed door with a doorcase, also with leaded glazing. The corner bay window on the ground floor and the four-light window on the first floor both have ogee-headed lights. The return side has a tile-hung gable and a canted bay with lights at the angles and a jettied stack. There is a cross-axial stack with twisted shafts. The rear of the building is similar, featuring small-paned casements, a rear stack, and privies. This house was the home of Lord Leverhulme from 1896 to 1897.
