Description

Nos. 88 and 88A on Greendale Road is a Post Office and house built in 1891 by Grayson and Ould. The building features a timber frame on a brick base, with brick at the rear and a tiled roof. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The first floor is jettied, with a jettied gable and decorative timbering on the second bay. The windows are leaded casements.

On the ground floor, the first bay has a five-light transomed window, while the second bay features a shop window with elliptical-headed plate glass lights and leaded glazing in the spandrels. There is also a one-light window in the first bay and a five-light canted oriel with a transom in the second bay, which includes a bull's eye in the gable. The entrance to the second bay has a leaded overlight and a plank door, while the canted angle has an elliptical-headed entrance.

The right return of the building has a first bay similar to the front, with two cross-casement windows and a jettied gablet. The second bay is made of brick, recessed with a projecting ground floor under a lean-to roof. An elaborate wrought-iron sign on a bracket, displaying the lettering "POST/OFFICE," is located at the angle. The rear of the building is brick, featuring a gableted window and privies.
