Description
Nos. 288, 290, and 292 on New Chester Road are three houses built in 1898 by Grayson and Ould. The buildings feature a mix of plaster, brick, terracotta, and tile-hung gables, topped with a hipped tile roof. They are two storeys tall and consist of four bays, with the third and fourth bays projecting and featuring gabled jettied first floors supported by bracketed bressumers. The first two bays of the ground floor are constructed of brick and have a cornice.
The windows include leaded casements, with the ground floor showcasing a five-light canted bay window with a hipped roof in the first bay, a three-light window with a stone lintel in the second bay, and five-light canted oriels on corbelled bases in the third and fourth bays. The first floor has cross mullion windows in gabled half dormers adorned with crockets and finials, along with traceried parapets in the first two bays. The third and fourth bays feature five-light casements with transoms and blind central lights.
The entrances are framed with architraves and have plank doors. The building includes two cross-axial stacks, with a left return entrance and half dormers, and a right return lateral stack with a hipped projection. The rear of the houses is similar in style, featuring gabled dormers and privies.
