Description
Nos. 284 and 286 on New Chester Road are a pair of houses built in 1898 by Douglas and Fordham. They are constructed of brick with a stone-chip roughcast first floor and feature a hipped tile roof. The houses are one storey with an attic and consist of two bays. A drip mould runs over the ground floor. The windows include leaded casements, with the ground floor showcasing 6-light canted bay windows topped with hipped roofs. The first floor has paired 3-light windows, each adorned with pargetted gablets. There is a stack located in the roof slope. The returns of the houses have buttresses that are flush with the front, along with lateral stacks, entrances, and windows that have stone surrounds. The plank doors feature three leaded lights and strap hinges. The rear of the houses is similar, with a sloped stack and privies.
