Description
Nos. 240 and 242 on New Chester Road are a pair of houses built in 1898 by Grayson and Ould. They are constructed of brick with a plaster first floor and feature terracotta dormers, topped with a hipped tile roof. The buildings are one storey with an attic and consist of two bays. A cornice runs along the ground floor. The ground floor includes five-light canted bay windows with leaded casements and hipped roofs. The first floor features cross-mullion windows with gabled half dormers that have crockets and finials, along with traceried parapets. The entrances are fitted with plank doors, and there is a cross-axial stack. The returns of the houses have buttresses that are flush with the front, and the rear is similar in design.
