Description

Church Drive Primary School is a school built between 1902 and 1903 by the architects Grayson and Ould. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressing, some roughcast, and features tile roofs. It has an irregular plan and is mostly one storey high.

The first bay has a low projecting storey with a ramped parapet. The windows feature gauged brick flat arches and casements, while the half-hipped gabled first floor includes a Venetian window with small-paned glazing. The entrance is adorned with a tented copper canopy and is located on the right return. The second bay contains a window with a small-paned casement and central round-headed glazing, topped by a shaped gable. The third bay is recessed and similar to the second bay, with a gable that abuts a low tower featuring round-headed openings, a stone parapet, and a recessed octagonal turret with a balustrade and ogival cupola topped with a weather vane.

The fourth bay projects and has a ground floor similar to the first bay, but with 20th-century metal casements. The end bay is recessed and gabled. The left return is similar, with a basement featuring an elliptical arcade and a balustrade above. There are also some roof dormers, and the first bay has a half-hipped gable. A projecting two-storey toilet block with an external stair is present. The rear of the building includes a basement arcade, with the first bay featuring a half-octagonal oriel on brackets and a central pediment. The projecting toilet block has an end bay with a gabled half-hipped gable, and some bays have shaped gables for the dormers. The right return has two gabled bays, and there are seven stacks with Lombard friezes at the caps.
