Description
23 and 24 Windy Bank are a pair of houses built in 1907 by Grayson and Ould. They are constructed from common brick with red brick and stone dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring a tile ridge. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of three bays, with the first bay projecting under a gable. The end bay forms a projecting round tower topped with a short octagonal spire.
The houses have a weathered red brick base and a continuous hood mould at the first floor. The first bay features red brick tumbling-in to the gable, complete with kneelers and a top panel. The end bay has a stone drip mould and a brick cornice. The windows are small-paned casements; the ground floor windows consist of four lights with elliptical-headed brick tympana and stone and brick surrounds, while there are similar round-headed lights to the left. The tower includes a two-light window with red brick jambs and a gauged-brick flat arch with a key. The first floor of the first bay has a window similar to that below, while the second bay features a three-light dormer in a crow-stepped gable with a keyed roundel to the left. The tower's first floor has a round-headed light.
The entrance has an elliptical head and a plank door with three lights. There is one cross-axial stack and two rear stacks. The left return has an entrance and a crow-stepped dormer, while the right return mirrors the first bay. The rear is similar, constructed of red brick.
