Description
The Leverhulme Memorial, located at the junction with Queen Mary's Drive in Port Sunlight, is a Grade II listed memorial built in 1930. Designed by J. Lomax Simpson, with sculpture by Sir W. Reid Dick, it features an obelisk clad in polished granite and adorned with bronze sculptures. The memorial stands on a circular island with a central square fluted base that has projections to the east and west. The western projection is inscribed with "LEVERHULME 1851-1925" along with a memorial inscription below. The obelisk is clad in tall rectangular panels and supports a female figure representing Inspiration, who has her hands and face raised. To the west of the obelisk is a bronze figure group depicting a mother and child, flanked by figures representing Industry and Education, with Art positioned at the rear, all facing the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
