Description
Numbers 1 and 3 are a pair of houses built in 1926 by J. Lomax Simpson, located on the north side of Windy Bank in Port Sunlight. Constructed from brick, they feature a swept hipped tile roof and stand two storeys tall with four bays. The houses have a weathered base, a soldier course above the ground floor, and boxed eaves. The windows include small-paned casements, with the central bays on the ground floor having a weather-boarded canopy and three-light windows, while the others have two-light windows. On the first floor, there are three-light rectangular oriel windows in the central bays, which have panels below, flanking fluted strips, and a cornice; the other windows are two-light. The entrances are framed with architraves and feature doors with small-paned lights. A central cruciform stack is present, along with a decorative rainwater head. The rear of the houses is similar in design. The flanking screen walls have end buttresses and central shell niches with triple keys and raised coping above. This building is part of a rebuilding effort to provide a setting for the Leverhulme Memorial.
