Description

Sunlight Lodge is a cottage hospital, built in 1907. It was later converted to an Employees' Training Centre and, as of 1985, serves as a rest home. The building is constructed of pebble-dash render with brick dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring a tile ridge. It's two storeys high with single-storey wings. The exterior showcases brick quoin blocks and top cornices. Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars.

The garden front features a central wing that terminates in a pavilion. This pavilion has projecting hipped bays with small-paned glazing, elliptical-headed windows, and the main entrance. Two-bay sections flank the central wing, incorporating ground floor canted bay windows with small-paned casements. Further three-bay wings project forward, and are topped with octagonal, louvred cupolas. The lowest four-bay wings also project forward, featuring large small-paned glazed doors and steps. There are six stacks with brick caps.

The rear of the building features a central projecting section with a pedimented gable. A later four-bay projection has been added. Windows on this section have gauged-brick flat arches and sash windows. There are hipped dormers with two-light casements. The entrance is framed by an architrave, pilasters, a frieze, and a consoled cornice, with a complete overlight above a four-panel door. Flanking wings have end gabled projections and canted bays with lights in the angles. Returns to these bays feature canted projections to the gable-end stacks, and the final four bays on each wing have lunettes set within round-headed recesses. The main entrance, on the right return of the central section, has a consoled round hood, paired two-panel doors, and a flanking stained glass light. A later extension has been added to the left of the centre.
