Description
The Silver Wedding Fountain is a drinking fountain located in Port Sunlight, built in 1899. It is made of pink granite and features a central fountain with a swept segmental hood, flanked by seats that curve forward at the ends. The fountain includes quoins and a string course, with a semi-circular bowl supported by squat Ionic columns and brackets. Above the bowl, there is a recess that holds a bronze lion mask and a plaque commemorating its erection. Below the bowl, an elliptical-headed recess contains a small dog bowl. The flanking seats are designed with rusticated end piers and a top entablature, and they have panelled backs and ends adorned with acanthus details and paw feet. This fountain commemorates the Silver Wedding anniversary of Lord Leverhulme and his wife, as well as the life and influence of his parents, James and Eliza Lever.
