Description
Gladstone Hall is an assembly hall built in 1891 by William Owen. It is constructed of brick with tile-hanging and a tile roof, featuring some timber-framing. The building is mostly one storey and consists of four bays. The east facade has a projection under a hipped roof, with the first bay showcasing a gabled projection that has a tile-hung gable and paired tile-hung dormers with timbered gables above. The other bays include glazed gablets and windows with small-paned glazing. The first bay also features a half-octagonal bay window, while the dormers contain a three-light transomed window. The third bay has a canted glazed porch with paired plank doors that have strap hinges, and above the doors is an embossed lead panel commemorating the opening by Gladstone. The roof has raking louvres.
On the left return, there is a tile-hung gable and a projection with a stone-coped parapet and a canted bay window. The right return features a glazed canted projection with a tile-hung gable, and there is a projecting two-storey porch that is timber-framed with lower nogging. The Tudor-headed entrance has plank doors with strap hinges and a lamp above. The rear facade mirrors the east facade but includes later extensions and a tall stack. Inside, the hall has round-arched ribs, and the proscenium arch features a segmental pediment with flanking panels, all adorned with relief decoration.
