Description
This house, located at 1 Bolton Road, was built in 1889 by William Owen. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a tiled roof. The building has two storeys and a three-bay facade that faces the corner of the street, with the central bay projecting under a Dutch gable. The two bays facing the street include a stone-coped gable. The windows are designed with single-chamfered mullions and small-paned glazing.
On the ground floor, there is a three-light canted bay window with a hipped roof in the first bay and a four-light window in the second bay. The first floor has a three-light window in the first bay and a two-light window in the second bay, with a datestone positioned above. The entrance features a four-panel door with a leaded flanking light.
The return side of the house has a projecting first bay with an asymmetrically placed gable. The ground floor includes a three-light canted bay window with an additional light to the left return, along with a cornice and parapet, and sash windows with upper glazing bars. There are two chimney stacks. The rear of the house is similar, featuring a projecting one-storey hipped wing. This house is one of the earliest to be built in Port Sunlight.
