BIRKENHEAD MARKET STREET (West side) Nos. 12 and 14, and 75 Albion Street

(Formerly listed as No.12 and The Glass Barrel Public House, MARKET STREET)

GV II Former public house and shop. c1860 remodelling of an earlier C19 building. Brick with glazed coloured tiles to ground floor and Welsh slate roof. 3 storeys, 6-window range to Albion Street, former entrance across angle, and 4-window return range to Market Street. Doorway towards centre of Albion Street elevation, with overlight cut by segmentally-arched projecting hood. Flanking tripartite and squared fixed-light windows. Divided into bays by tiled pilasters, with recessed panels beneath the windows. Similar doorway and window in Market Street elevation. 1st-floor windows are sashes with 6-pane upper lights and shallow plastered pedimented heads. Moulded overhanging cornice and end wall stacks. Shop to right on Market Street forms part of the same build, with inserted shop door and window beneath original fascia with console brackets,and upper sash windows with 6-pane upper lights and shallow pedimented heads.
