Description
Nos. 2-4 Benfieldside Road is a house and former shop dating from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with a rock-faced plinth, and features ashlar dressings and quoins. It has a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings and brick chimneys. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, while the shop, which is set back to the right, is also two storeys but has one bay.
There is a step up to the central flushed door, which has an overlight in a raised stone surround with a stone hood. The late 19th-century sash windows in the outer bays are topped with flat stone lintels and have projecting stone sills. The shop front includes narrow pilasters and scrolled fascia brackets that support a cornice. There is another step up to a flush door and overlight on the right side, along with three elliptical-headed lights featuring central horizontal glazing bars and a late 19th-century sash window above. The low-pitched roof has two end chimneys on the main block.
