Description
This is a pair of shops located at 42 and 44 Hamilton Street in Birkenhead, dating from around 1840. The buildings are constructed of stucco and feature a Welsh slate roof. They rise three storeys and have a three-window range. The ground floor has inserted shop fronts, while the upper floors showcase tripartite sash windows with segmental pediments on either side of a central two-pane sash window, all set within a stressed architrave topped with an entablature. The three attic storey windows have been renewed. A moulded stone eaves cornice adds detail to the roofline. There is also a three-window return elevation facing Market Street, which includes a doorway on the left and two round-arched windows.
