Description
Nos. 25 and 27 on Market Street in Birkenhead are a pair of shops built around 1850. The buildings are faced with ashlar and have a Welsh slate roof. They rise four storeys high and consist of two bays. The ground floor features two shop units, which were disused at the time of the survey, and has a continuous moulded cornice above renewed fascias. Above the ground floor, there are 12-pane sash windows, some of which are missing, with entablatures supported by brackets over the first-floor windows. The attic storey has 6-pane sashes. There are plain bands below the first and second floor windows, and a heavy moulded cornice below the attic storey. The buildings also have a moulded eaves cornice and gable end stacks. To the left, there is a narrow stuccoed doorway that provides access to a side entrance. Additionally, there is a blocked door in a stilted archway, which features heavy stuccoed quoins and a cornice above.
