Description

These former stables and carriage houses, dating from around 1825, were built to serve numbers 52 to 57 Hamilton Square. Designed by James Gillespie Graham, the building is constructed of red brick laid in an English garden wall bond, with stone eaves and a Welsh slate roof. The original design included eight carriage doorways, some of which remain, along with stone hinge pads. These have been significantly altered in the 20th century with insertions and widening, although one original double door with strap hinges survives. Two first-floor windows are visible. Some original openings remain at the rear, including a six-pane sash window and a doorway with a segmental arch. The building is included on the list for its group value with numbers 52 to 57 Hamilton Square.
