Description

Nos. 158 and 160 High Street are two houses dating from the 17th century, with an extension from the 18th century on the left side. The gable of the building formerly displayed the date 1622. The structure is built of painted brick on a stone base, featuring a corrugated asbestos roof, while the later part has stone slates and two brick stacks. The first bay consists of two storeys, while the second and third bays are one storey with an attic. The windows are primarily two-light horizontally sliding sashes, except for the ground floor of the first bay, which has a six-pane sash, and the second bay, which features a small gabled dormer with iron lattice glazing. The third bay includes a larger gabled dormer with timber framing. The entrances are plain. No. 160 comprises two bays, and No. 158 may have a concealed timber frame, with the east wall possibly jettied.
