Description
Dean School Cottage is a former school building, now a house, dated 1677, with a 20th-century extension at the rear. It is constructed of stone and features a stone slate roof, with weathering over the ground floor and 20th-century boxed eaves and barge boards. The building has one storey and an attic, comprising two bays. The windows have chamfered mullions and are of three lights, with those in the attic located in dormers. The entrance includes a lintel inscribed with "JOHN STIRRUP BUILT THIS SCHOOL HOUSE ..... 1677." The original door has decorative hinges. The left side of the building features a five-light window with an inscribed plaque above it. The rear wing is of similar design, and there is one stone end stack. The house has recently been restored, with much of the stonework renewed.
