Description

This is a memorial located to the northwest of the burial ground of the United Reformed Chapel in Newton-le-Willows. It commemorates Richard Evans, a local mine owner who died in 1864 and was responsible for building the second chapel on this site, which has since been demolished. The memorial is designed as a polished red granite obelisk that stands on four square steps. The plinth of the obelisk features inscriptions, and the sides of the obelisk are adorned with incised lines.
