Description

Falcon Manor School is a house, now used as a school, dating from 1665. It was substantially remodelled in the mid-18th century, with further alterations and additions in 1841 and 1900. The building is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a slate roof and stone end stacks. The original plan was three units, now with a five-window front. The central entrance features a part-glazed door, a stone lintel, and a keyblock flanked by Doric columns supporting a section of entablature and an open pediment, all painted. The windows are 12-pane sashes with stone lintels and keyblocks (painted), with the exception of a two-storey canted bay window to the left, which also has similar windows. Other details include a chamfered plinth, a painted stone storey-band, quoins, moulded wood eaves, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Kneelers are inscribed with the dates 1841 and 1900, and a datestone in the left gable is inscribed with “1665”. 20th-century extensions to the rear are not of architectural importance. The interior has been significantly altered in the 19th century.
