Description
Wyken is a house dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone and features a slate roof with brick stacks at either end. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed door set in a moulded wood surround, topped by a timber lintel and sheltered by a gabled stone porch with a plain-tile roof. The ground floor has three-light casement windows, while the first floor features 12-pane sash windows, except for a small rectangular one-light window above the door. All windows are fitted with timber lintels. The house includes two roof dormers and has ironstone quoins at the left angle, along with a chamfered brick eaves cornice. To the left, there is a lower two-storey extension with one window. To the right, there is a three-bay barn, which was raised in the 19th century using brick and has a plain-tile roof; it is now used as a living room. Inside, the house features an ogee-stop-chamfered spine beam and an open fireplace with a cambered chamfered bressumer.
