Description
The Old Gate is a house that was formerly a public house, dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, which is painted on the front, and has a 20th-century plain-tile roof that replaced the original thatch. The building has an L-plan layout, with two storeys and an attic, featuring a four-window range facing High Street. The windows are irregularly arranged and consist of 2- and 3-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, all with timber lintels. The left gable is stone-coped. There is a wing at the rear left that faces Bradden Lane and contains the current entrance. Inside, the house features chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer.
