Description

The Old School House is a former school master's house and school room, now functioning as a house. It was built around 1627, with a single-unit addition added in 1711, as indicated by the date on the chimney stack. The building features squared coursed ironstone and has a steeply pitched thatched roof. There are stone ridge and end stacks with brick shafts, and the structure has been extended from two units to three units. It is a single storey plus attic with a three-window attic range.

The entrance is off-centre to the left and features a 20th-century door, a wand frame, and a wood lintel. To the left of the entrance is a three-light casement window with a wood lintel. To the right, there are two three-light wood casements that have wrought-iron casement fasteners and wood lintels. The attic includes two- and three-light eyebrow dormers with metal casements set in wood frames, also featuring wood lintels and wrought-iron casement fasteners.

Inside, there is a stop-chamfered beam and a blocked fireplace with a 19th-century overmantle. The interior also has some stone flags, window boxes, a straight flight staircase from the 18th century, a butt-purlin roof, a stud partition in the attic, and a plank door. The 19th-century school room that abuts on the right is not considered to have special architectural interest.
