Description
Nos. 1 and 5 High Street are a pair of houses dating from the 17th century, with some evidence of earlier construction and alterations. The left side, comprising four bays, is roughcast and whitewashed, while the right side has two bays made of thin brick with a rendered plinth. The houses feature old tile roofs, with a 17th-century brick chimney with grouped shafts at the center of No. 1 and a 20th-century brick chimney to the right.
These houses are one storey with an attic and have a total of six bays. The upper windows are set in gabled eaves-line dormers. No. 1, on the left, has four bays of irregular wooden casements. No. 5 has two bays with 20th-century four-pane sash windows on the ground floor and wide two-light barred wooden casements above. There is a 20th-century board door between the left bays and a 20th-century panelled door between the right bays. The ground floor openings of No. 5 have segmental heads, although the one above the door has been altered. Additionally, No. 5 retains the remains of a cruck truss between the right bays.
