Description
Nos. 5, 6, and 7 Chase Heys, including No. 88 Beresford Drive, is a row of four houses built around 1800 to 1810, with some alterations. The buildings are primarily constructed of brick, with Nos. 5 and 7 rendered and painted white, while No. 6 is whitewashed. They feature graduated old slate roofs and are arranged in a rectangular block. Originally single-depth, they have been enlarged to one-and-a-half depth by the addition of rear outshuts.
The facade facing Chase Heys is mostly two storeys tall and has irregular window arrangements. No. 6 has a square-headed doorway on the right with an old board door, a three-light fixed window at ground floor level (likely replacing a sliding sash), and a two-light sliding sash window with four panes per leaf located immediately under the eaves on the first floor. To the left, No. 7 and the former No. 8 (now No. 88 Beresford Drive) have altered windows on both floors and an added porch with a through lobby to No. 88, which features a datestone inscribed with "A.B / 1807." On the right, No. 5 has an off-set gabled porch and a 20th-century two-light casement window at ground floor level (with shutters), but no window above it; its gable wall has one window on each floor, similar to those at the front. There are three ridge chimneys.
At the rear, facing Beresford Drive, the houses have continuous outshuts under catslide roofs, with No. 5 being taller than the others. The outshut for No. 6 has two two-light sliding sash windows with four panes per leaf, while the others have altered openings, including a doorway for No. 7 and a small gabled porch that breaks the eaves at No. 88 Beresford Drive. The interior has not been inspected. This row of houses forms a group with Nos. 2, 3, and 4 Chase Heys.
