Description

86 and 86A Beresford Drive are a pair of houses located in Churchtown, Southport. No. 86 is dated 1807 at the rear, which was originally the front, and the houses were altered and renovated in 1989. They feature white painted render on brick and a slate roof with two slightly different levels. The layout is double-depth, likely expanded from a former single-depth design by adding outshuts to the rear; No. 86 consists of two units while No. 86A is one unit, which has been extended.

The current facade facing Beresford Drive is one storey high with a catslide roof and inserted attics. No. 86 has a square-headed doorway in the second bay, with a small square window to its left, a three-light casement window in the first bay, and a lean-to extension to the left. There is also a large gabled dormer in the roof. No. 86A is divided into two narrow sections, with the right portion being slightly lower. The first section has an off-set square-headed doorway on the left and a gabled dormer, while the second section features a large 20th-century three-light casement window. Both houses have two ridge chimneys.

The rear of No. 86, which was the original front, is one-and-a-half storeys high with two gabled dormers and a square datestone inscribed with "A.B / 1807." There is a late 20th-century addition to the rear of No. 86A. These houses form a group with Nos. 5, 6, and 7 Chase Heys on Bibby Road.
