Description

A house, built in 1749 and subsequently enlarged, now divided into two dwellings at 24 and 24A Manor Road, Churchtown, Southport. The house was enlarged to the rear in the late 19th century and altered in the late 20th century. It is constructed of white painted roughcast render with a graduated slate roof. The building has a double-depth, double-fronted plan with various extensions to the rear. The two-storey, two-window front is nearly symmetrical. A square-headed doorway, offset to the right of centre, now has a 20th-century door. Above the doorway is a small arched datestone inscribed "B / R J / 1749," where the initials are covered in white paint and the date is marked in black paint. The original windows were 3-light sliding sashes, but these have been replaced with uPVC double-glazing—the ground-floor windows are now shallow bows. Chimneys are visible in both gables, the one on the right being significantly larger. The interior was not inspected.
