Description
32 and 34 Botanic Road are a pair of houses that have been converted into shops. They were likely built in the early 19th century and were altered for commercial use in the late 19th century. The buildings feature roughcast render on brick and have a slate roof. Each former house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, with a back extension to the left.
The exterior consists of two storeys and has a symmetrical two-window range. Each shop front is wooden and pilastered, complete with a frieze and cornice. The doorways are located to the right and left, respectively, and there is a rectangular shop window with eight large, well-proportioned panes arranged in two tiers. Above, at the first floor, there is a three-light sliding sash window with glazing bars. The former ridge chimney has been removed.
The buildings form a group with No. 27 and Nos. 29-31A opposite, as well as with Nos. 2-6 Back Botanic Road, which are adjacent to the north and lie at right angles.
